Alaska Railroad - Whittier

This is a quick journey, departing from Whittier, and traveling through the 2.5 mile long Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel to Portage.

Depart from Whittier and travel through a two mile tunnel, and past Portage Glacier. Continue along Turnagain Arm where Beluga whales and Dall sheep can often be seen. This trip ends at the town of Girdwood.

Departing Whittier, pass through a two mile long railroad tunnel and travel along Turnagain Arm where Beluga whales and Dall sheep can often be seen. Then, pass through the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge and be prepared spot migratory birds, water fowl and moose. This trip ends with your arrival to the city of Anchorage.

Ride the rails through the Chugach National Forest to Spencer Glacier and steal away on a gentle float tour among the icebergs at Spencer Lake and down the Placer River. Professional guides lead the trip. Rain jacket and rubber boots are provided.

Depart Whittier, and be sure to have your camera ready as you pass Spencer Glacier, Bartlett Glacier, and especially when you arrive at Scenic Grandview Pass. It is considered the most scenic spot on the whole railbelt.
